Government moves to improve local industries

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Mr Charles Mwijage
The move is aimed at banning the importation of lowquality goods, and promoting use of materials available within the country to produce final goods. In a telephone interview yesterday, Mr Mwijage called upon Tanzanians to be more aggressive in business and launch industries that shall use locally available labour and materials. “Tanzanians fear to do big businesses.

It is now the right time for them to invest in industries, and definitely they shall succeed,” he added. He said the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) had already been given the task to revive the National Milling Corporation (NMC) mills and granaries countrywide.

He was referring to the NSSF Director-General, Professor Godius Kahyarara’s statement issued last month, which said the pension fund was planning to invest over 34bn/- to revive the state milling and grain storage facilities in Kyela District, Mbeya Region, Iringa, Dodoma and Mwanza with the four factories said to be valued at 80bn/-.

“Tanzanians fear to open industries and conduct competitive business available in the region.

The government is ready to assist all willing to venture into trade, and that is what President John Magufuli has always been advocating for,” he said. In March this year, the government assured the private sector continued support to realise the nation’s industrialisation drive as an engine of economic growth.

The Minister of Industry, TradeAND INVESTMENT
, Mr Charles Mwijage, said this in Dar es Salaam during the 16th Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) where a new Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) information system was launched.

“The government will work closely with the private sector, particularly in identifying and addressing all challenges that hinder their growth; provided they show readiness to move together and speak the same language of industrialisation,” he said.

He said while launching the new web portal that the flow of information in this world today is of paramount importance if there is will to boost and speed up industrialisation, particularly small and medium enterprises.
